Here’s our top tips for holidaying in Thredbo with the family this Easter.
Take a hike
Tick off a bucket list hike and head high across Australia’s rooftop towards the summit of Mount Kosciuszko. The 13km round trip is suitable for most ages and abilities as the majority of it is along a raised metal walking trail. We can arrange a packed lunch for your walk, just let us know the night before. Join a guided walk and make the hike a learning experience for the kids. Thredbo’s knowledge local guides will tell you about the native flora and fauna of the alpine area as well as a little history. Guided walks run on Thursdays and Saturdays.
Hit the mountain bike trails
Hire your bikes from Thredbo Sports and explore the Thredbo River by pedal power along the Thredbo Valley Track. There are short easy rides ideal for families with kids that are 5km – 12km return. One of our favourites it the 5.2km Thredbo 3 bridges ride. It starts at Friday Drive in Thredbo and takes in 3 suspension bridges that cross the Thredbo River and offer sensational views.
If you want to learn how to hit the more adventurous trails in the Thredbo mountain biking park join a clinic. There are junior clinics for kids 8 – 14 years, and adult clinics for those 13 and over. These are the best way to get the fundamentals of mountain biking correct so you can have fun and ride safely.
Swim at the Thredbo Leisure Centre
For an indoor activity head to the Thredbo Leisure Centre which has a 50m and 25m pool gym and water slide. There are also trampolining classes!
Also open daily in the School Holidays is Mission Inflatable. It’s a floating obstacle course that you scramble over and is loads of fun! It’s open to kids 1.2m and over who can swim 25m.
Ride the bobsled
A trip to Thredbo is not complete without a ride on the bobsled! Nestled across the river from the village at the base of Merritts Nature Track, the bobsled is fun for the whole family. Hop on your cart at the base of the hill and get winched to the top, then wind your way down the metal track, controlling your speed with a brake. Kids over 9 can ride on their own, and younger ones can double up with an adult.
Master disc golf
Friday flat is home to the Thredbo disc golf course. Disc golf is a game where you don’t need any balls or clubs, just a frisbee-like disc which you aim to get into a raised basket in as little number of throws as possible. Starting at a tee area you throw the disc and complete the hole when you manage to score a basket. It’s a fun family activity and one all ages can enjoy.
Discs can be hired from Thredbo Sports at Valley Terminal.
