Grove Estate produces cool-climate, award-winning wine in the beautiful Hilltops region of NSW.
The history of wine in the Hilltops Wine Region starts in the 1860’s when during the Gold Rush, Croatian migrant Nichole Jasprizza moved to Young to sell cherries and wine to the local miners. The site of the vineyard was first planted by Jasprizza’s nephew Baldo Cunich in the 1870s and was then re-established in 1989 by Brian and Sue Mullany with Grove Estate now into their third generation.
Brian and his team grow cool climate wine grapes in the Hilltops’ red volcanic soils. Since 1989, more than 100 hectares of both red and white grape varieties have been planted on the property, which is renowned for Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as a selection of Italian varietals, including Primitivo, Barbera, Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Montepulciano, Fiano, and Pecorino, among others. The partnership of viticulturist Brian Mullany with winemakers including Tim Kirk and Bryan Martin has resulted in a run of notable wines. These have received acclaim at wine shows in Australia and overseas. Grove Estate has a symbiotic relationship with the Clonakilla winery in Murrumbateman and many of their wines are made in conjunction with winemaker Tim Kirk. Grove Estate Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon are the traditional standout wines from this vineyard as is the Sommita Nebbiolo.
